Wyvern Commission by Swashbookler Wyvern Commission by Swashbookler
More commissions, this one was really hard but I'm feeling content with the result. Hurrah fer dragons!

Brushes by Obsidiandawn

EDIT: I've been educated that this is a wyvern not a dragon so I changed the title.

EDIT: Under advice I added a little more light in the background.

Who decided this was a wyvern? I thought Wyverns couldn't breathe fire. There are four limbed dragons by the way. Asia's full of them. The two wing/two leg types do exist as do four leg and no wing types.

Very good by the way. So which deer didn't leap fast enough and got barbiqued?

The one on the far side of the blast.
I don't know who decided, I just complied to a suggestion.

Upon closer inspection, I have come to the conclusion that this picture is astounding. :iconwhutplz:
I did not know that, you see. But then I clicked on it, and was met by this fantastic, perfectly simple feast of color and anatomy. 8B The deer are great, and the dragon is perfect. The contrast and lighting MAKE this picture. I love those clouds the stars~
The lighting is my favorite~ :iconbigheartplz: The way the blue moonlight trails down the dragon's back, touching each contour of its rough tail and softly glowing along the back of it's neck. The orange light of the fire makes such a contrast! And the blast of fire looks great. Nice flying embers!

And that anatomy! I love the reptilian contours of its head, and the complex muscles of arms connected to the wings. I like how you can see exactly where the ribcage is, and those great toesies. :icontoesplz:

The anatomy on the deer is wonderful! And the deer are excellently backlit~ they're an aspect of this picture I didn't notice 'till I looked closer. Really nice~

The only thing that's off about the picture is the way the mountain line is painted out with a round brush. Makes it look like its a low cloud, rather than sky, because of the way the curves work.

Ooh I like the cinemative quality~

A bit more of the background needs to be illuminated by the dragonfire to the right, I think, but it's plenty alright if you don't go back and edit it...

I deliberately left it that way to make sure the focus stays on the creatures.

I kinda had that thought, but I wanted the confirmation. Nicely done, but it could come off a little more natural, still...

*randomly pops in* wyverns use their wings as front 'feet/legs' where as dragons don't because they have actual front legs

So a lizard with no wings and four legs, and a lizard with wings and four legs are both dragons but one with wings and only to legs is not a dragon....

And there are even dragons that only have 2 legs and no wings as well as no legs and 2 wings :stare: Lindorms www.vaesen.se/img/lindorm-prev… and amphiptheres fc01.deviantart.net/fs6/i/2005… I`m serious.
Yeah, I think there`s a little flaw in the way of thinking there. Besides, the actual wyvern (as a species, mind you) has a really distinct snakelike appearance and a poisonous tail (from my experiences of seeing them in various games, like this one fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/i/201… ) as well as the inability to breathe fire while this creature is breathing fire and has a distinct dragon-like appearance.
I personally call it Wyvern Dragon because it has 2 legs + 2 wings like a wyvern and the bult and fire-breathing ability like a dragon. But hey, this is my vision.

The focused beam effect is very interesting. I don't think that I've seen dragon fire drawn quite like that before.
